Vertical video ad specs for every platform
By Vladimir R. · Published · 9 min read
All platforms in one table
9:16 is the shared shape: every format below recommends or lists it except Amazon's specs page. What changes from platform to platform is the resolution floor, the length cap and the file limit. Each value comes from the platform's own ad-spec or help page, linked in the last column; where a page doesn't publish a figure, the cell says so instead of borrowing a number from elsewhere. TikTok's In-Feed page was updated in June 2026; the other pages show no update date.
| Platform (ad format) | Aspect ratio | Resolution | Length | Max file size | File types | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| TikTok (In-Feed ads) | 9:16 recommended; 1:1 and 16:9 accepted | At least 540×960 px | Up to 10 min; no limit for Spark Ads | 500 MB | .mp4, .mov, .mpeg, .3gp, .avi | TikTok Ads Help, June 2026 |
| Instagram (Reels ads) | 9:16 | 1440×2560 px recommended; at least 250 px wide (500 px from 30 s) | Up to 15 min | 4 GB | MP4, MOV; H.264 video, AAC audio at 128 kbps or more | Meta Ads Guide |
| Facebook (Reels ads) | 9:16 | 1440×2560 px recommended | No maximum | 4 GB | MP4, MOV, GIF | Meta Ads Guide |
| YouTube Shorts (Demand Gen) | 9:16 recommended for Shorts; 1:1, 4:5 and 16:9 supported | 1080×1920 px recommended; no minimum stated | At least 5 s; 10–60 s recommended; the Shorts feed plays the first 60 s | 256 GB | MPG (MPEG-2 or MPEG-4) | Google Ads Help (length, Shorts feed) |
| Snapchat (Single Image or Video ads) | 9:16 | 720×1280 px | 3–180 s | Not on the ad-formats page | .mp4, .mov | Snapchat for Business |
| Pinterest (standard width video ads) | From 1.91:1 to 1:2; 1:1, 2:3, 4:5 or 9:16 recommended | Not published for video ads | 4 s to 15 min; 6–15 s recommended | 2 GB | .mp4, .mov, .m4v; H.264 or H.265 | Pinterest Business Help |
| Amazon (Sponsored Brands video) | Pages disagree: 16:9 only (specs page) or 9:16 and 16:9 (guide) | 1280×720, 1920×1080 or 3840×2160 px | Pages disagree: 6–45 s, 20 s or less highly recommended (specs page), or 15–30 s recommended (guide) | 500 MB | .mp4, .mov; H.264 or H.265 | Amazon Ads specs page and guide |
One file for all placements
Export one master and reuse it: 9:16, 1080×1920 px, an H.264 MP4 with AAC audio, 15–30 seconds long. Each choice follows from the table:
- 9:16 is the recommended or listed vertical shape on TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube Shorts and Snapchat, and one of the four ratios Pinterest recommends for standard width video ads.
- 1080×1920 px is Google's recommended size for Shorts, twice TikTok's 540×960 minimum in each direction, and the same shape as Meta's recommended 1440×2560. It's also as large as an organic Short gets: YouTube caps Shorts uploads at 1080p (YouTube Help).
- MP4 is on TikTok's, Meta's, Snapchat's, Pinterest's and Amazon's lists, and H.264 is the codec Instagram, Pinterest and Amazon name. Google's Demand Gen page lists one format, “MPG (MPEG-2 or MPEG-4)”, and names neither MP4 nor H.264; MP4 is the MPEG-4 file format (MPEG-4 Part 14), so an H.264 MP4 should qualify, but confirm it when you add the video in Google Ads.
- 4 Mbps or more for video, and AAC at 128 kbps or more and 44.1 kHz for audio, clears TikTok's 516 kbps minimum, Amazon's 1 Mbps minimum and 4 Mbps recommendation, Instagram's 128 kbps AAC audio and Amazon's 96 kbps, 44.1 kHz audio floor.
- 15–30 seconds stays inside every limit in the table (the tightest are Amazon's 6–45 seconds on its specs page and the 60 seconds the Shorts feed plays) and inside Google's recommended 10–60 seconds and Amazon's guide's 15–30. Two recommendations run shorter: Pinterest suggests 6–15 seconds, and Amazon's specs page highly recommends 20 seconds or less, so cut a 15-second version if those channels matter most.
Two platforms need a second look. Snapchat lists 720×1280 px, the same 9:16 frame at two-thirds the size, so resize a copy of the master for an exact match. Amazon's specs page accepts only 16:9, at 1280×720, 1920×1080 or 3840×2160 px, while its getting-started guide says vertical works too; until the two pages agree, plan a 1920×1080 cut for Sponsored Brands video.
Safe margins and captions
Keep text, logos and key product details out of the top 14%, the bottom 35% and 6% on each side of the frame. That's Meta's safe zone for Reels ads (Meta Ads Guide), and it's the only one among the pages cited here that gives numbers. On a 1080×1920 video it leaves a box about 950 px wide, running from 269 px below the top edge down to 1,248 px: about half the frame's height.
TikTok says its safe zones change with the video's dimensions, the caption length and the ad format, and it publishes them only as downloadable templates, so check each video against the template for your placement (TikTok Ads Help). Amazon asks you to keep text and other important information out of the lower right corner (Amazon Ads). We couldn't confirm Snapchat's margins for single video ads, so we don't quote any.
Platform-by-platform notes
What the table can't hold: the exceptions, the figures that are easy to mix up, and what each page leaves out.
TikTok In-Feed ads
TikTok's In-Feed page accepts 9:16, 16:9 and 1:1 video with minimums of 540×960 px vertical, 960×540 px horizontal and 640×640 px square, a bitrate of at least 516 kbps and a length of up to 10 minutes; Spark Ads have no length limit (TikTok Ads Help, June 2026). It names no minimum or recommended length. TikTok's creative best practices (June 2025) set a higher bar of at least 720p and put the weight on the opening: the content proposition in the first 3 seconds, the hook within 6, and on-screen text at “5-10 words per second”. More in our TikTok ad specs guide.
Instagram and Facebook Reels ads
Meta recommends 1440×2560 px for both full-screen Reels placements (Instagram, Facebook). The widely repeated 1080×1920 is the same 9:16 shape and far above Instagram's minimum width of 250 px (500 px for ads of 30 seconds or more). Instagram caps Reels ads at 15 minutes; Facebook's page says there's “no maximum limit”. Don't mix up full-screen Reels ads with “Ads on Facebook Reels”, a separate overlay unit that takes 1:1 video at 1440×1440 px, 4–15 seconds long (Meta Ads Guide). Details in Reels ad specs.
YouTube Shorts ads (Demand Gen)
Google documents vertical Shorts ads under Demand Gen, the campaign type that has replaced Video action campaigns. Its asset page labels 9:16 at 1080×1920 px “Recommended for YouTube Shorts”, also takes 1:1 (1080×1080), 4:5 (1080×1350) and 16:9 (1920×1080), and states no minimum resolution (Google Ads Help). Videos must run at least 5 seconds; under 10 seconds they can't run as YouTube In-stream ads, and Google recommends 10–60 seconds, over 15 to maximize reach (Google Ads Help). An ad can run up to 3 minutes, but only the first 60 seconds play in the Shorts feed (Google Ads Help). With a 256 GB limit, file size isn't the constraint here.
Snapchat Single Image or Video ads
Snapchat's ad-formats page lists 9:16 at 720×1280 px, 3 to 180 seconds, as .mp4 or .mov (.jpg or .png for image ads), with no separate recommended length (Snapchat for Business). It gives no maximum file size, and Snapchat's more detailed business help articles wouldn't load when we checked, so we don't quote one. Check the file in Snapchat Ads Manager before launch.
Pinterest video ads
Pinterest splits video ads into standard width and max width. Standard width takes anything from 1.91:1 to 1:2 and recommends 1:1, 2:3, 4:5 or 9:16; max width can't be taller than square, so vertical video goes in standard width. Both formats run 4 seconds to 15 minutes, with 6–15 seconds recommended, up to 2 GB, as .mp4, .mov or .m4v in H.264 or H.265 (Pinterest Business Help). Pinterest publishes no pixel size for these formats: the 1080×1920 px it recommends is for organic video Pins (Pinterest Help), and the other sizes on its ads page belong to Idea ads and the Showcase and Quiz formats.
Amazon Sponsored Brands video
Amazon's ad-specs page spells out the encoding: .mp4 or .mov, H.264 or H.265 in Main or Baseline profile, 23.976–30 fps, progressive scan, video at 1 Mbps or more (4 Mbps and up recommended), audio in PCM, AAC or MP3 at 96 kbps and 44.1 kHz or more, and up to 500 MB (Amazon Ads). On shape and length, Amazon's two official pages disagree: the specs page says 16:9 only and 6–45 seconds, with 20 seconds or less highly recommended; the getting-started guide allows vertical 9:16 or horizontal 16:9 and recommends 15–30 seconds. The guide also sets landing-page rules: a single-product video links to that product's detail page, a multi-product video to your Brand Store, and any performance claim, comparison or superlative in the video must be backed up on the landing page.
Where ProductToReel fits
ProductToReel turns a product link or photos into videos in that master's shape and format: 12–20 seconds, 9:16, 1080×1920 H.264 MP4, with an AI voice-over, burned-in captions, music and an end card with your call to action. Three storyboards are free without sign-up; videos cost from $1.66 each, with no subscription. Two limits: our captions sit lower, and the end card's call to action higher, than Meta's Reels safe zone today, so check both in the Reels preview in Ads Manager; and we export 9:16 only, with no 16:9 cut for Amazon. Every video is AI-generated, so label it on each platform.

Can I use a 4:5 or square video instead of 9:16?
Not everywhere. TikTok In-Feed ads take 9:16, 1:1 and 16:9 but don't list 4:5 (TikTok Ads Help), and Meta's Reels ad pages list 9:16 (Meta Ads Guide); YouTube Demand Gen and Pinterest accept 4:5 and 1:1 as well. For full-screen vertical placements, 9:16 is the one shape all of them list.
Why do other guides list 1080×1920 for Snapchat ads?
Snapchat's ad-formats page does show 1080×1920, but for the optional Branded Chat Background of Sponsored Snaps, a different format. For Single Image or Video ads, the same page lists 720×1280 (Snapchat for Business).
Can I still run Shorts ads in a Video action campaign?
No. Google says Demand Gen is replacing Video action campaigns: new ones couldn't be created from April 2025, automatic upgrades began in July 2025, and the last campaigns were upgraded by April or May 2026, depending on which of Google's pages you read (migration page, Video action campaigns page).
Do organic posts have the same limits as ads?
No. TikTok's English help page allows uploads of up to 60 minutes (TikTok Support), against 10 minutes for In-Feed ads (TikTok Ads Help). Instagram Reels can run up to 20 minutes, though Instagram says Reels over 3 minutes won't be recommended to new audiences (Instagram), and YouTube counts square or vertical videos of up to 3 minutes as Shorts (YouTube Help).
